Elks Medal of Valor presentation; Lake City soldier
KIA in Iraq 2007?
In early October 2008 Tommy Carey took on a project
to make arrangements for the awarding of the National Elks "Medal of Valor" to
the parents of U. S. Army Specialist Anthony "Tony" Hebert.
The
medal was presented on behalf of the members of Elks Lodge 1091 to honor,
recognize and thank Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hebert for the heroic sacrifice of their
son.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hebert were presented with the medal and
accompanying proclamation letter at their home, November 25, 2008 in Lake City,
Minnesota.
Specialist Hebert was an Infantryman assigned to the 1st
Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry
Division, United States Army. Specialist Hebert was killed June 21, 2007 in
Baghdad, Iraq when an IED detonated near his vehicle. In addition to Specialist
Hebert, four other American soldiers, an interpreter, and three Iraqi civilians
were killed.
Specialist Hebert was honored for his sacrifice with the
following awards: Bronze Star medal, Purple Heart medal, Combat Infantry badge,
Army Good Conduct medal, Army Commendation medal, National Defense Service
medal, Iraqi Campaign medal, Global War on Terrorism medal, Army Service ribbon
and Army Overseas Service ribbon.
Tommy
Carey and Judy Wasser had the honor of presenting the Medal of Valor to Lauri
and Bob Hebert for the sacrifice of their son, Tony,
June 21, 2007 while
serving in support of Iraqi Freedom. Along with the medal of honor and Grand
Lodge Certificate, we also presented a
proclamation recognizing Tony’s life
and family.
A special thanks to Tommy Carey for making this happen. He
was responsible for all the work getting the medal, certificate and proclamation
done as well as making all the arrangements with the family and Lake City Press.
The beautiful framing work of Fred Saack made the presentation extra special.
